THE PURPOSE OF LEADERSHIP

Equipping and Empowering God’s People

Ephesians 4:11-12

“Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ.”

The purpose of leadership is to equip and empower God’s people for the work of ministry and mission.

The priority of leadership is to mobilize God’s people into the purposes He desires for His people, not for leadership to exercise its giftedness.

Leadership will then be successful when God’s people are mobilized into His purposes, which are to:

          (1)     Grow in intimacy with our Heavenly Father

          (2)     Manage all of our relationships and resources in a Christ-like manner

          (3)     Understand and exercise our spiritual giftedness

          (4)     Share our grace story within God’s grace story

          (5)     Saturate a specified geography with everyday missionaries
