What is a Disciple?

THE GREAT COMMISSION

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”                                                                          ~ Jesus in Matthew 28:19-20

If we are going to make a disciple, what is one?

According to the Gospels, a disciple is someone who follows Jesus. . .

. . . in order to become like Jesus (through baptism into Jesus and training by Jesus);

. . . so that he/she can participate with Jesus on His mission as a daily lifestyle;

. . . and show others how to do the same.

What is Jesus doing in the Gospels that He wants us to imitate as His disciples?

Through the guidance and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, the following 5 Lifestyle Practices of Jesus help us imitate His simple, redemptive lifestyle as our own:

(1) Remembering Our True Identity & Mission

(2) Seeking the Kingdom

(3) Submitting to the Father & Humbling Ourselves

(4) Freely Offering a Little of What We Already Have in Abundance

(5) Showing Others How to Do the Same
